Dishes smell like dog after being washed

Post by Tatiana »

Please help, maybe someone has encountered such a problem! The dishes, after being washed in the dishwasher, stink of dog!! Disgusting smell, but the dishes are clean and shiny. I changed the tablets, rinse aid, salt is always available. I wash the inside of the dishwasher regularly, the filter, the walls. I tried running it with baking soda and vinegar. Nothing helps (((

The same problem, the dishes stink, I thought it was the dishwasher, the service center said it was because of the product. Today I washed the plate with my hands and took it out onto the balcony, the smell is absolutely the same. I opened a new set of plates - same story. When you wash with filtered water, the same thing happens, the smell may be a little less. Something like this(((

And if, for example, you just wash it with regular water, without detergent, alternately in cold water, then in hot water, you can also wash it with baking soda instead of detergent for an experiment.

Hello. Things are average. What is the result? I started washing the dishes at 3.30. and set the salt to 4 rinses at 4, factory settings. After 3-4 washes the smell almost disappeared. Minimized. Afterwards the smell began to appear again. Having checked the water, I was surprised, it became 10 degrees, it was 13. I reduced the salt to 3. The smell is still present. After looking through the instructions, I saw that I needed to set it to 2. Now I washed the dishes, and nothing happened. There is a smell. :( One of these days I will try salt at 2 and give up the rinse aid. In my opinion, the smell has changed a little, as you wrote earlier, that the musty smell may appear from an excess of rinse aid. Now I’m wondering how much rinse aid to put in, because there are no stains or anything on the dishes.

Hello. In general, the situation has improved, but not completely. Having abandoned the rinse aid, the dishes stopped smelling from the PMM, even with the window open. But here it is again twenty-five, if you put hot food in, or heat it in the microwave, then a stench appears. :sorry:  What should I do? There is no strength whatsoever.

Quartz Grill, maybe the dishes release something from the high temperatures? washing at high temperatures, dishwasher drying, microwaves, hot food, all this over time destroys the protective coating of the dishes and they can begin to absorb chemicals and rinse aid and then smell, glass leaching is also included here :unknown:

*x) Nothing happened. All the same. Dishes do not smell when the window is open, salad bowls, etc. For some reason, the mugs and glasses began to smell. And when you heat it up, write in a container that doesn’t smell, and again that damned stench appears. And the dishwasher itself smells. *x) *x) *x)

Hello everyone! I also encountered the smell. After reading the topic, I reduced the salt. It helped. But that’s not the reason for the smell. And in the finger. That’s why people wrote that it starts to stink if the windows are open. Now the windows on the balcony are open, and a lot of pollen has settled on objects. Today it rained and the stench on the balcony was the same as with PMM. I assume that pollen actually gets into the drainpipes. Hence the smell.

There is no odor on my dishes or in the dishwasher. Never used cleaning products. I wash the filters once a month, regardless of the degree of contamination. Once a quarter I run a cycle without dishes, with detergent at maximum temperature. The water hardness level is set according to the water utility. I use classic compressed powder tablets without additives + mouthwash. There is no aroma, including a trail of detergent or rinse aid. I have three types of tablets with different compositions and from different manufacturers, for the experiment I dissolved all the tablets. There is NO smell in hot water. There is NO smell in warm water. There is NO smell in cold water. There is NO smell on the dishes after rinsing with tap water.

Hello everyone.

I am sharing solutions to the dog problem that really helped me. My dishes don’t stink anymore! The reasons may be individual or in combination.

First, make sure that the dishwasher drain is connected correctly and is working properly. It should be like this: or install a normal siphon (just awesome Prevex siphons, they are sold (sold) under the Ikea brand). If the connection is incorrect, aroma/liquid from the drain or sink may enter the dishwasher.

Secondly, set the dosage of salt and rinse aid correctly. Make sure you are using the correct units of measurement: Google "Mosvodokanal water hardness calculator". If you use 3in1 tablets, then at a hardness of up to 20 Dh you can turn off the salt dosage (at least Finish says so). A little mouthwash won’t hurt.

Thirdly, if you use tablets, then put two tablets instead of one: one in the cuvette, and the second on a special basket stand or on the instrument basket or on the bottom (two of them do not fit into the Bosch cuvette at once). Manufacturers are reducing and reducing the weight of tablets to save money on you and me, and therefore one may simply not be physically enough. This is exactly what helped me personally. But you can try switching to powder and pouring it to the top.

Fourth, wash dishes after animals separately from human dishes. Cat food is very smelly, the smell sometimes cannot be washed off even with two tablets and “infects” all the other dishes. This also helped me.

If someone has a blooming and smelly water, then something needs to be thoroughly addressed. The dishwasher has nothing to do with it - the washing machine will also stink.

I consider all sorts of reactions with aluminum, advice to clean the filter every time and take out hot dishes esoteric. After two tablets, my dishes sit for several days and don’t stink (I wash them again quickly, just a fact).

Esthete, it’s better to put 5 tablets at once, and 2 spoons of powder to be safe! Then manually 2 more times! Increased foaming, overdose of detergent, how many rinses do you need to wash off so much chemicals from the dishes? Here from one tablet of Finish the aroma throughout the whole house, do you want to poison the forum? And a little more mouthwash won’t hurt :fool:

I read the entire thread a couple of months ago - I probably tried all the methods. Then a repairman was called - he looked at everything, cleaned it, there was no smell for a week and now again *x) I’m sinning with the rinse aid. Yesterday, it finally ran out in the compartment, but the dishes even seemed to start to stink more strongly. I switched from powder to tablets - the intensity of the smell decreased, but it did not disappear completely. Another version is stinking water in the city (I live in Ekb. The local river grazes wildly, and the water from the tap smells pretty bad). But it’s strange that there is no smell from the washing machine and the clothes don’t smell after washing. I clean all the filters, take out the rubber bands and wash them, and always remove leftover food from the dishes. I’m already tired of this problem. I’ll experiment with tablets for now and give up mouthwash completely.

Guest, this happens, you probably live near the port of Marseille? Emilien also often works there, so he said that all the residents near the port have dishwashers that smell of fish, in principle, this is the norm if there is a port nearby, there is a lot of fish, after all, but if the smell of fish bothers you, then Esthete wrote a little higher how to get rid of the smell! You can find information about water hardness on the Commissioner Zhiber website! Don’t thank...

Menthol: 03 Jul 2022, 13:09 overdose of detergent
people, well, you put the Finish tablet in the cuvette and compare the volume it occupies with the risks for dosing the powder - it’s there like spent grain in a rattle. Or by email. weigh the effective dose of the powder on the scale and compare it with the weight of the tablet. Moreover, I have a full-size 60 cm dishwasher and it’s always fully loaded. There is no foam or excessive chemical smell.

Esthete, is there any point in comparing granules in tablets and powder? This is a different technology, composition and dosage, the powder says not to exceed the dosage! Do you know why? Ask the idiots on YouTube who poured a full cuvette of powder or 2 Finish tablets. This is especially true for regions with soft water, all this is difficult to rinse, especially since Finish is an aggressive chemical, manufacturers reduce the weight of tablets not because of savings, as you wrote, but because of the concentration of alkaline solutions in the detergent, read the composition, as a result, the weight of the tablet the surfactant decreases and instead of 5-15% it is already 30-60% and a small tablet washes off faster and better than a large one, even in cold water! There is a video where detergent in a normal dosage gradually corrodes plastic impellers and filters in the PMM over time, and don’t bother me here that if you pour a full cuvette of detergent or put in 2-3 tablets, there will be no overdose of detergent, it will happen! And the chemicals will remain on the dishes and the smell of the detergent will remain!

Menthol: 04 Jul 2022, 05:43the point of comparing
Let’s do it! Only without hysterical emotions, but only by numbers. Without this nonsense "it’s better to put 5 tablets at once, and 2 spoons of powder to be safe." Two are enough.

I studied the composition again and formatted it into a single form:

Power Allin1 mine (tablet with coated weighs 17.7 g)
Bleach 5-15%
Polycarboxylates 5-15%
Nonionic surfactants less than 5%
Phosphonates less than 5%

Quantum Ultimate
Bleach 5-15%
Polycarboxylates 5-15%
Non-ionic surfactants 15-30%
Phosphonates 5-15%

Finish Powder
Bleach less than 5%
Polycarboxylates present
Non-ionic surfactants less than 5%
Phosphonates present

Firstly, even Quantum does not contain 60% surfactants. Secondly, if a dosage of 60% is the norm, then what is the problem?

In my BOSCH cuvette there are marks of 15 g, 25 g and its upper limit is 50 g, we have: 1 tablet contains 0.85 g of surfactant (two pieces 1.7 g), a load of 25 powder contains 1.25 g of surfactant (if it doesn’t wash well, then a load of 40 g already contains 2 g). And then, if you believe the manufacturer’s figures (they probably squeeze the grams).

The very fact that the washed dishes stink like a dishwasher with a delayed start means a lack of detergent, not an excess of it. And we still don’t “salt” the dishes, but wash and rinse them at high temperatures - all the products from the composition are highly soluble in water.

I forgot to compare Power and Quantum tablets. Probably, those who use Quantum don’t have a dog and it won’t occur to them to increase the dosage. I cheated a little and bought a large supply of Power tablets with a good promotional code (the tablets were original ones from a large chain store). It turned out to be less than 10 rubles. per tablet. As soon as I run out, I’ll switch to Quantum and put in only one.

As a result, if we compare, the composition of two ordinary tablets is comparable to Quantum, and even falls a little short in terms of surfactants.

The official position of the Finish brand regarding two tablets in the dishwasher:

"Tablets stick together when they get wet. To avoid this, always handle them with dry hands and store them in a dry place, such as in our original packaging. Do not separate tablets if they are stuck together. You can place up to two tablets in the bottom of the machine. "

I can’t post the link, but you will find this text on the official website on the QUANTUM tablets page:

I read this topic.
It seems to me that this is the smell that many people smell of ordinary brown laundry soap "like in the USSR". What is laundry soap? These are fats saponified by alkali. That is exactly what happens in PMM.
How to fight?
There are two ways.
1. Change the "settings" of your sense of smell. According to my observations, many flavorings, especially of the aldehyde type, i.e. derivatives of alcohols, etc., exacerbate our perception of fats. That’s why manufacturers so generously scent their products so that a person perceives even the slightest hint of the smell of fat as an unpleasant odor of a dirty body, and accordingly washes and washes more often, and buys and buys different detergents. This is why they are reluctant to produce products without fragrances, and they are expensive. Their use will lead to a decrease in sensitivity to such odors and a decrease in sales of detergents.
This may partly explain why it smells in the summer but not in the winter. In summer, the air is saturated with flavors of natural origin (and not only natural), but in winter everything is different.
Te maximum avoidance of scented products can dull sensitivity to such odors over time. People who constantly use household soap in their household quickly stop feeling its stink, which actually feels like a wet dog, its smell becomes completely different, yes, not very pleasant, but also not nauseating.
2. Try to reduce the smell.
According to my feelings, such odors are more pronounced if the product contains soda ash. Hence, I suggest trying to use phosphate-based products.
The assumption about eggs is also not without meaning. Saponified animal fat, which is difficult to purify from animal protein, according to my observations, gives a stronger specific odor than saponified vegetable fats. That is, wash dishes with animal protein less.
Reducing the salt settings during regeneration will reduce the concentration of sodium ions in the water, i.e. soda, which is more conducive to the appearance of a special smell. So anything can happen...
Increasing the dosage of detergent is also an option. Greater alkalinity will give a more complete decomposition of protein, in theory..
I also see switching to an acidic rinse aid and increasing its dosage as a way out for neutralizing sodium ions in water.

Friends, I have 100% solved the dog problem and 99% of the time you will succeed.

I wrote several recommendations here a few posts ago, but I’ll correct them a little, since new information has appeared.

I am 99% sure that most people have a problem with improper connection of the drain: the dog is the stench from the sewer that comes back. The dog came back to me once despite taking 2 tablets: something happened with my alteration of the drain and I redid everything again in the most correct way possible. Everything can be washed off with one tablet from any manufacturer (even eco-friendly "herbal" ones).

I’ll prove it!

Pull out the end of the drain hose, insert it into a bucket/basin and run any program of the loaded machine with your favorite product (one tablet or a moderate amount of powder) . It wouldn’t hurt to temporarily plug the open sewer pipe with a bag of rubber band or tape (otherwise it will stink). Draining into a bucket will 100% eliminate odors and sewage from coming from the sewer. Wait until it’s finished and enjoy perfectly fragrant, clean dishes. By the way, the water from the bucket smells pleasantly like detergent, that is, there is absolutely no stench.

Are you sure?

How to fix?

Buy another plumbing siphon and connect the drain of the machine parallel to the existing one in the sewer pipe tee. This will exclude any jambs of the sink siphon (suddenly it has silted up or the design is unsuccessful). Tee 150 RUR, siphon from 400 RUR. up to 1000 rub. (good McAlpine UK or AniPlast Russia).

No esotericism or perversion! Check it out with an experiment with draining into a bucket! Maximum repost!

Sneaker: 10 Jul 2022, 09:27 This can partly explain why there is a smell in the summer, but not in the winter.
The differences between the seasons are only due to the changing air draft in the sewer due to the difference in the temperatures of the street and systems in the house. How stuffy in summer, and drafty in winter. Read my message just above, I solved the problem. I want to help everyone, because this disgusting problem really pissed me off and I figured it out.

Or connect the drain through a non-return valve. For example: "McAlpine WMV-32CP" about 800 rubles. There are cheaper ones from no-name manufacturers. This thing prevents backflow and the penetration of odors from the sewer.

Tatyana: 24 Jun 2016, 23:14 the smell of a dog is not a sewer, there is a different smell
So you and many other users, for some reason, do not have enough pump power and the waste water leaves not completely, and not anything is poured in from the outside. That is, the dishes are washed in diluted waste water.

Let’s do it this way. You will make an effort and organize a dump into the bucket once. If I’m right and the dishes smell perfectly fragrant, then you’ll get a pack of Finish Quantum Ultimate 45 tablets. If I’m wrong, then I’ll think further.

A small price to pay for an improved quality of life.

Everyone concerns

I accept gifts for solving the dog’s problem.

P. S.
Then redo the drain using the check valve I recommended so that the end of the hose does not rise too high (to ensure minimal load on the pump).

Sent after 2 minutes 30 seconds:
People, don’t slow down. Stop sniffing the dog. Let the drain run into the bucket once and check out how the dishes smell. Anyone can do it. Then reconnect yourself or explain the task to the technician.

And the suggestion to "tune your sense of smell" didn’t confuse you? I don’t see anything gypsy about trying to remove all resistance on the drain and compare with the usual result. It’s fast and free, it won’t make things worse. Objectively, if you knew how to do it correctly, you would write a solution.

Amsterdam: 19 Jul 2022, 11:19 I now turned on the machine with the drain into a bucket. Let’s see.
This is a check for the correct operation of the pump/sewage system. If it continues to stink, then the problem is poor protein washing. You’re right about scrambled eggs.

A company technician from Bosch came to me, tested the entire system, didn’t say anything worthwhile except that everything was fine with the machine, and left. In my case, it turned out that the drain was organized properly and I just needed to wash it using the 70 degrees program with two tablets and rinse (on one out of three). My water is 9 Dh (I don’t use salt, it’s turned off at zero). One tablet is placed on the shelf (where it should fall out after opening the cuvette) and immediately begins to act after preliminary rinsing. By the time the second one rashes, the first one will have already been sufficiently used up, so there is no need to worry about an overdose. I have a lot of protein in my washing machine: almost all the glasses are from coffee with milk, plates from cat food and our whole food.

I came to the conclusion that in modern dishwashers, in addition to "savings " no other functions are performed. Due to the high cost of electricity and water in Europe, European manufacturers are underestimating and underestimating the actual washing temperature, pressure (electricity) and water consumption with a loss of efficiency for the sake of eco-indicators in technical specifications. I had a Neff dishwasher for 10 years and the dishes in it were washed perfectly with half a tablet on an hour program. Modern Bosch (the same company, essentially) cleans without stink with only two tablets on the maximum program.

Look at the dynamics of rising prices for electricity in Germany (attached a picture). It’s the same story with water.

I will add that the underestimation of performance indicators is also due to competition between manufacturers. The main thing for marketers is to sell it, they don’t care about the stench of other people’s dishes - they can’t drink or eat from it. By the way, the picture is not attached and the link is not allowed to be inserted.

The foreign exchange resin stinks like a sponge, it absorbs impurities, chlorine, rust from the water, all of this eventually turns into a stinking slurry, the regeneration of the resin occurs at the rinsing stage, the brine solution after regeneration is drained into the sewer and clean water passes through the resin in the PMM, according to along the way, collecting all the aromatic deposits in the foreign exchanger, and since there is no longer any detergent in the chamber, the dishes are rinsed in aromatic water.
