Dishes smell like dog after being washed

Post by Tatiana »

Please help, maybe someone has encountered such a problem! The dishes, after being washed in the dishwasher, stink of dog!! Disgusting smell, but the dishes are clean and shiny. I changed the tablets, rinse aid, salt is always available. I wash the inside of the dishwasher regularly, the filter, the walls. I tried running it with baking soda and vinegar. Nothing helps (((

Dear!
Please, read all the messages in the topic.
Read the documentation for the dishwasher and you will be happy!
As practice shows at work, people often complain about the dishwasher, although it contains there is no fault, which is why there are a lot of "false" calls.
1) Dishes must be folded without solid food residues.
2) ATTENTION (I read the topic - I never heard about the time) IMPORTANT open the dishwasher door IMMEDIATELY after the end of the cycle, while it is still hot - let it cool naturally.
3) Those who write about air flow are right and wrong at the same time, depending on your place of residence. The fact is that in Moscow they no longer use chlorine for water purification; if they did, it would stink less, because... it prevents the growth of fungi. The remaining moisture in the dishwasher, if you keep it closed for a long time after the end of the cycle, begins to generate life. What else should she do when there is high humidity and a temperature of +30 inside? The same thing happens in washing machines, if the cycle is already over, and you are walking around somewhere.
I know how it happens - you want to put the wash on and go, but you are adults - understand, you need to keep an eye on everything - when you put the machine on, check that it is finished - open the door while the dishes are still hot (a slight subtlety. It is worth opening just a little so that the dishes keep warm - this way the moisture will evaporate faster, which is why colonies of various bacteria will not have time to form on it)
Once again for the dull.
It is not the machine that is to blame, but YOU, who does not monitor the equipment. It’s time to close this topic long ago. She is stupid due to the fact of her existence. It does not already contain answers to all questions. Don’t invent anything new for yourself. Be a little more thoughtful.
I will collect all the main steps in this post again.
1) Before putting the dishes in the PMM, make sure that there are no solid food residues on it.
2) Make sure that that the dishwasher hood is functioning correctly. If it functions incorrectly (insufficient moisture extraction, which is a common problem among all manufacturers, except those who thought of automating the opening of the dishwasher door after the end of the cycle.) open the door yourself at the end of the cycle (not after half an hour, not after an hour, but IMMEDIATELY after the end of the cycle ).
3) Refuse the mouthwash (in this thread someone has already written about all these points - take the trouble - look)
4) Refuse the tablets - use powder (we are talking about tablets with built-in into the capsule with a cell with rinse aid).
5) Avoid drafts when airing hot dishes - this will lead to too rapid cooling, due to which the moisture will not have time to evaporate, and in addition - a huge number of spores and bacteria will be brought in from the street , who with great pleasure will settle down in the comfortable environment of your damp, warm dishes.
6) Stop looking for problems where there are none. Follow these simple rules and you will be fine with your dishes, unless, of course, you have problems with tap water in the first place. But here only main prefilters will help you, which will purify all the water that comes to your apartment.
Good luck to you! And please, forget about this problem and don’t create any more additional “questions” specifically in this discussion.
I repeat - this discussion has all the possible tips that could help you solve the problem - search in the topic, try personally. If you tried something and it didn’t work out, you tried poorly. This means it’s worth re-reading the important points and again monitoring the implementation of all points.
This TOPIC IS CLOSED.

The smell appears when the window is open. I noticed that too. if you don’t immediately put it in the closet. And leaving the dishwasher open with the window open starts to stink like hell.

I read one of the comments and completely agree that the problem is in the products. Particularly in EGGS. Moreover, there is another interesting observation: there is no smell in winter. Apparently at this time of year, poultry farms do not feed chickens with any nutritional supplements. We have two PMMs of different brands. One in the country, the other in the city. Believe me, detergents have nothing to do with it. Many experiments have proven this.

After 11 months of testing, I called a warranty technician for the second time. I explained to him how I followed all the recommendations that he gave during the first call. I sent complaints to the store, to BOSCH, to the service. The car was taken for examination, and the next day the money was returned without even waiting for the examination results. A few days later they called from the service center and said that the equipment was fully operational and would be put up for sale. I got rid of it, which I am very happy about.
Now wash with your hands. BUT! Sometimes I take a plate and smell a familiar smell. Someone in the household didn’t wash ONE plate well.
I’m sure this is a real waste from your dishwasher!!! I asked the mechanic how they tested my car at the service center. He said they were loading the dishes after lunch. Fully loaded? The answer is "no, where can we get so many dishes..." ))) That’s right: half loaded - it copes, but if fully loaded, then alas... And he also said that the smell disappeared after 3-4 washes (half loaded). Apparently she washed herself. I had a BOSCH. My comments are above. Be sure to write the brand of your equipment and city. Chelyabinsk.
I want a car, but I don’t want to step on the same rake. I’m thinking of taking a Chinese one, but I can’t decide...))) Please respond to anyone who uses Chinese PMMs.

I have owned a Bosch machine for several months. The machine is all made of stainless steel, so you can exclude cheap plastic (the assembly is not ours).
At first everything was fine for a couple of months, then I decided to wash it with a product that Eldorado gave as a promotion (some crap), I thought that they were all the same and washed it. A terrible chemical smell began. Several washes managed to remove it. BUT, now after almost every wash it smells very strongly of dog. This is just brutal.
I read all the posts and am honestly shocked by what they say. It’s more like dancing with a tambourine and mostly nonsense.
Don’t wash pans and pots? - What is there to wash in it then?
Run to open the door immediately after washing? - the instructions say the opposite!
Should you take out the dishes while it’s hot? - what’s the point? if she already stinks? scald your hands?
Use powders instead of tablets? - why do you think they were invented then?
Reduce water hardness to a minimum? - what should you do if there are stains from the water that can only be wiped off with a product (from the taps, from the shower stand, etc., i.e. it is OBVIOUSLY hard).
All these devices, machines, washing machines , dryers, etc. were invented to make life easier! And not to sit next to them and watch the end of the cycle is nonsense!
Has anyone dealt with this smell? I’m sure the reason is banal and simple. Tell.

I also have this problem, it happens that it “smells like dog” ((((. And I washed the machine with citric acid and changed everything to a different brand.... It stinks or it doesn’t. And I made my conclusions!!!! !!))) as soon as the cycle is over, you can’t immediately open it. Either the interaction of hot dishes with air gives such a reaction. In a word, you have to try everything imaginable and not imaginable, since the smell is not real

Hello everybody! Having stumbled upon this topic, I was pleasantly surprised that I was not the only one :). And there are people like me in my family and "it smells like no one but you" . I decided to put in my two cents. We’ve been using the machine for over a month, and from the very first wash, I could smell it! Moreover, the first sink was generally loaded with mostly clean dishes. After pouring clean water into a washed glass glass and drinking it, I felt this terrible smell. But in general, I conclude for myself that this smell is not from eggs and other things.
The machine has an AirDry function and after the door automatically opened, I wanted to feel the hot dishes by opening the door completely, thereby, as described earlier, we “created” an unpleasant odor at the exit. In general, having read the topic from beginning to end, I will experiment and write back later.

On water hardness. Based on the website of the local water utility, the level in our city is 5.6 mmol\liter. According to the instructions, I accordingly set the hardness to level 7 out of 10 (the default was in the middle at 5). Finish detergent tablets, powder, gel (tried everything) yesterday I bought Somat, but have not tried it yet.

If you open the door for 10 or 15 minutes after washing dishes, the dishes will not stink. Checked if you put it on overnight washing, there is a smell. Apparently the ventilation is not at all in the arc.

We have a Bosh dishwasher, we live in Minsk. The problem is the same :( Moreover, I haven’t washed frying pans in the dishwasher for a long time, as well as plastic, because they stink of detergent (like I didn’t wash it out), it’s impossible to eat. The smell of a dog is every now and then. We use Fairy all capsules in one and add salt, because the water is hard. Dishwasher without an opening function. We experimented in every way, and turned it on at night, in the morning we took the dishes apart, and immediately removed them, and opened the window, and closed it... And we periodically rinse the dishwasher with special. chemistry... We haven’t found a solution yet :( Sometimes it’s not possible to eat. I wash dishes with soda. Why then use technology?...

As I continued to use the dishwasher, I found out that I had set the water hardness in the roots incorrectly, because... The units of measurement for water hardness in Russia and other countries are completely different, there are many calculators and tables online for converting one unit to another, I set the hardness to level 3 out of 10. But the smell did not go away. The smell went away when the average temperature outside the window dropped below (approximately) 15 degrees. So I support the theory with the flowering of reservoirs, which was put forward by someone above, it is an absolutely correct assumption, in my case it is so :)

I read everything that was written.
As a result, I lowered the water hardness level setting. We switched to Fairy all-in-van tablets. And they stopped washing dishes using eggs.
The smell has disappeared. Moreover, it completely disappeared after they stopped washing the pans and plates after scrambled eggs/omelettes.

I live in Tyumen. The water comes from our own well, there is a complete purification system, we drink from the tap. Bosch dishwasher, I’ve been using it for 2 years, for a year and a half everything was fine, but now this smell has appeared, BUT only on glass mugs, ceramics do not smell at all. The dishes are mostly all Luminark and the transparent glass mugs are not only spoiled and cloudy, but they also constantly smell. Finish Quantum Max tablets, I don’t add salt, because... My own water is VERY soft, I use rinse aid, periodically wash it with special products, and I also constantly wash the filter. Now I will experiment with frying pans, rinse them with soda. I didn’t notice any changes due to the temperature outside and open windows.

It seems like there’s no need to argue, I’ll write off. I haven’t read the topic, but I understand what it’s about. I’ve been struggling with this problem for more than 15 years, well, how can I say I’m struggling, I know the solution. This stench is due to the contact of internal hot air with external air from the street. In winter it never smells like a dog, no matter what. Now it’s spring, the PMM is looking directly at the open window, and now when you take the dishes out of it, at least plug your nose.
Remember, wash and open the PMM only with the windows closed, this is very difficult to do in the spring, when it’s already below +10 outside and the batteries are fried. The rest won’t help. PPM Bosch SMS53N18RU/50
The second option, so as not to stink, turn on the cold rinse mode after washing.

Hello!
Many people have a problem, but there is still no answer.
I started getting a stink just recently. The car is a year old. Maybe the fact is that I put it in the wash at night, and after 4 hours of washing it remains closed for the remaining time (about 5 hours)? The humidity there is crazy, there can be leftover food in the water and it ends up absorbing the dishes.

The same garbage (((new Hotpoint ariston hio3 machine)) not a month... The smell appeared almost a week later...
I live in a cottage with centralized water, according to measurements the hardness is 10g, according to the instructions after conversion you need 3k install))) did so... I didn’t take into account that I installed water treatment with salt at the inlet))) just a week later I changed the filter to a new one... I also poured salt into the PMM and Somat Gold tablets) The manufacturer indicates if the water hardness up to 21 on the German scale, then you don’t need to use salt... there’s literally nothing in the machine... It washes everything the first time, even in the fast mode for 30 minutes))
The bottom filter is always clean, after each start))) New sewerage.
Reduced the hardness by 1, I’ll wash it 5 times and report back

The same trouble haunted me, and intermittently. I began, excuse me, to carefully sniff the water. I noticed the smell of hot water. Now I wash all the dishes first, then soak them for a few minutes with diluted citric or acetic acid and then be sure to wipe them. It’s troublesome, but it’s the only way. This is water. Remedies have nothing to do with it, I used baking soda and other natural remedies. Not! This is water. Moreover, one day it may smell, but in the evening I rinse the dishes - it’s normal. Indeed, if the dishes are also after meat, the smell is doubly intensified.

Hi all! We have the same problem, and it started in 2014. I especially want to draw your attention to the fact that nothing like this has ever happened before (like everyone else present, I think).
In 2014, our family encountered this for the first time; we then lived in Yekaterinburg (we washed dishes by hand). Any protein food (omelet, chicken soup, etc.) - and the dishes began to smell like dog after washing, even if you immediately wiped them with a freshly washed and ironed towel.
Then it gets more interesting. We moved to the Krasnodar region, but the problem did not go away, although we bought absolutely all the dishes new, even pots. The habit of wiping everything with clean towels after each wash has been preserved; without this ritual, the dishes almost always stank terribly.
Now we live in the Moscow region and use a dishwasher, we never wash plates with leftover food - I rinse everything in the sink, all the pans wash by hand, tablets, salt and finish rinse aid. These measures almost helped, but from time to time the dishes still stink. More often in summer. We have completely given up eggs and chicken, we just don’t buy them. We do not open the window or vent in the kitchen, because... this 100% leads to a stink.

I have been looking for information on this topic on the Internet for a very long time, many years. And I read this forum when there were only 5 messages in this topic.
My conclusion over the years is that it’s about the water. Either they started using something new to clean it at stations, or, on the contrary, they abandoned chlorination and this led to this smell.

I also encountered this smell (wet dog). PMM Asko (nozzles, tubes, sprinklers and everything else are completely made of stainless steel). I use Finish Quantum tablets. Household members don’t notice the smell, and if they do, it doesn’t bother them. But I can’t eat from this dish, to the point of nausea. Immediately before eating, you have to rinse the plate manually with water without any means and then there is no smell. All dishes are Luminark (glass). Based on the messages above, only glass smells and ceramics do not smell? There is no ceramics, I can’t check. Observe for yourself and sign up. The smell does not always appear. I didn’t notice any pattern (I watch the open/closed window, I didn’t pay attention before). For all those who offer odor eliminators (absorbers, maskers, etc.)!!!! The PMM itself does not smell!!! The smell is just from the dishes!!! Therefore, recommendations for the use of such funds are not suitable in this case. The problem is something else!

Our dishes stink and stain when the window is open. I already think that because of dog walkers walking their dogs under the windows, such a coating and smell forms on hot dishes. And we all already sniffed it, got used to it... Water - it can’t be, we have filters for cold and hot water. Although it seems more likely that the component for the shine of dishes in tablets, powder and salt when reacting with fresh air gives such a smell. Tableware also contains aluminum, by the way. Let’s try 5-6 sinks without appliances. I’ll write back later...

Friends. For six months I suffered with this smell. I read the entire forum thread and found for myself a theoretically possible variant of its appearance. "Food particles" - why then doesn’t PMM itself smell, and metal products also don’t have a "dog" smell? The most (purely my opinion) suitable version is the effect of air on the glass. I don’t want to confirm this realistically and logically, but for me, it’s a matter of AIR.
If we consider, for example, the hardness of water and its quality, there are too many variables. And maybe, by luck, I started by testing the theory in a simpler way and this solved the problem - air. If the glass acquires an odor from the air after washing, it means you need to block the air from accessing the glass. Well, now don’t seal the room and the dishwasher.... Rinse aid. As far as I know (as a completely non-chemist), rinse aid creates a film on the surface of the dishes. Harmless and imperceptible, but a film. Rinse aid is a kind of insulator of dishes from oxygen (as well as detergent, etc., etc.). Out of ideas, my wife and I went to the store and returned with finish mouthwash. Before washing, out of emotion, I set the rinse aid supply to maximum. After washing, out of habit, I was already thinking about rinsing everything with water to get rid of the smell, when suddenly: 1) the dishes turned out (seemed to the touch) much cleaner than usual (without rinse aid) 2) if earlier (even before this smell appeared) the dishes simply smelled like water, Now she just doesn’t smell like anything. The result is creaking and odorless dishes - the result of a normal, copious rinse aid. :)

Hello everybody! There was this problem with the smell of "doggy" and they didn’t know how to solve it. I read the forum and tried to combine several options and everything seems to be fine for several days! Before that, they didn’t do anything - soda, salt, vinegar, special cleaning agents, just washed everything possible - and the dishwasher itself and all its parts, even in the washing machine. All this helped until the first washing of dishes - then it stank again. In the end, the following method helped - first I used Finish dishwasher detergent in a bottle with the maximum temperature, then I poured Sodasan rinse aid (it contains alcohol and citric acid for disinfection and faster drying of dishes). Before, they did not use rinse aid because they thought that it was not necessary if it was tablets. It turned out that it is better) Frosch Soda tablets. After the cycle, we immediately open and fully extend the baskets with dishes.

Depends on the water. My underwear started to smell after washing. And when I wash myself. The assumption fell on the fact that many dog walkers were gathering on the street near the house. And every day, all day long, they walk the dogs. Most likely, the wind carries this smell into the apartment from the dust of the street.

I live in Minsk, the problem with the stench appeared when I moved to a new apartment 5 years ago, maybe 10 years ago.
Classic - it stinks more in the spring and summer, although it happens in winter too. The only thing that saves is hand washing from the tap, it’s good that at least this way the smell goes away completely.
I live on the 12th floor, there are no dog walkers anywhere, so dogs have absolutely nothing to do with it.
I noticed, like many, that the dishes acquire a strong smell if they are dried with the door open, the tin simply stinks! Lately I’ve been drying with the machine closed, and if the door is opened for even a couple of seconds, the smell will still appear, although not as overwhelming as when drying completely with the door open.
I’ve tried everything, nothing helps.
I concluded that it was a matter of water and further interaction with air. The water at the previous place of residence was excellent - we drank it from the tap, but this water is terrible - a lot of salts and minerals, after washing the body everything itches. Also, ponds in the area often bloom, which also adds nastiness to the composition of the water. Well, further reaction with air also plays an important role, because without access to air, it stinks much less.
In general, there is no universal way to get rid of odors from PMM, something helps everyone...

In general, I watched for a month the open/closed window while washing and lo and behold!!! It turns out that it really is with the window closed during washing, drying and then opening the pmm until the dishes are completely dry no smell!!! As soon as you open the window for a while (especially critical during drying), the dishes immediately start to stink! I also increased the supply of rinse aid. Previously, it was completely disabled, because... I use tablets (the TAB mode turns off the rinse aid when using tablets).
Lilxxl, I strongly recommend that you try washing the dishes with the window closed, excluding access to fresh air from the street, until the dishes are completely dry. At the same time, after the end of the cycle, open the door slightly, so the dishes dry faster (the main thing is to exclude access to air from the street - this is important). You will be pleasantly surprised!
I live in Minsk on the 13th floor, so I also exclude the option of dog walkers. And it stinks more often in the spring and summer because... the window is often open.

Moscow Electrolux, one of the most expensive cars. I don’t use mouthwash, just Finish tablets and salt. There is also a dog smell from time to time. I don’t have any aluminum cookware at all. I noticed that it was a matter of air drying. If you install it on the overnight sink and then open the now cooled dishwasher, then while you take out the dishes, they begin to smell before your eyes. If you lay out the dishes while they are still warm, there is no smell.

Hello, scandalous, I’ll assume that the smell is just from the pills, because I noticed the following:
